Real-world experience is essential to your development as a psychologist. At Rosemead, your hands-on training begins early and builds, step by step, throughout your years of study. This leads to a full-time internship in your fifth year of study and prepares you to interact with and work in the mental health community while maintaining a Christian worldview.
Located near one of the highest concentrations of clinical practices in the nation, Rosemead provides opportunities for students to intern and receive training at many of the best clinics in the country while experiencing a wide range of personalities in a variety of settings. The variety of agencies which regularly train Rosemead students—surrounding school districts; community mental health centers; child, adolescent and adult treatment centers; outpatient clinics; and private and public psychiatric hospitals—ensure that you will gain a breadth of clinical experiences in professional settings while working with ethnically and racially diverse populations. Overall, you will complete more than 2,000 hours of practicum and internship before you graduate, ensuring you are well-equipped to enter the mental health community.
At Rosemead, you will receive this valuable clinical training through many different avenues:
Your exposure to hands-on counseling begins early at Rosemead. Rosemead operates two counseling centers in Los Angeles and Orange counties, to serve the needs of our communities. Your participation at the Biola Counseling Center will take you beyond the classroom beginning in your first year of study.
All Rosemead students complete practicum training with inpatient and outpatient agencies. These agencies provide you with diverse clinical experiences, as they offer opportunities to work with adults, children, individuals, groups, and families from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. This allows you to gain a breadth of clinical experiences in professional settings. Students in the Psy.D. must complete 18 units of practicum coursework and students in the Ph.D. track must complete 12 units of practicum coursework.
These courses, taken concurrently with theory courses, allow you to practice under supervision in the psychotherapy modalities that you are learning. Students in the Psy.D. track must complete at least 21 units from psychotherapy lab courses, and students in the Ph.D. track must complete at least 12 units. These courses are taken during the second, third, and fourth years of the program.
Rosemead's unique clinical program will give you the extensive practical experience you need to qualify for some of the nation's most competitive internship opportunities. Rosemead maintains a high placement rate in APA-approved internships.

“ Through my clinical supervisor, I learned how to integrate my personal life and faith with my clinical skills. The clinical training I received was really relevant for where I was going after graduation. ”
