Dr. Hall's writing and research focuses on relational approaches to spiritual transformation. Dr. Hall developed the Furnishing the Soul Inventory, a web-based measure of Christian spirituality that is used in national assessment projects conducted by the Coalition of Christian Colleges and Universities, Association of Biblical High Education, and Association of Christian Schools International, and also by churches and seminaries across the United States. In 2001, Dr. Hall received the Margaret Gorman Early Career Award from the Psychology of Religion division of the American Psychological Association for his work in the area of spiritual development. Dr. Hall has published numerous journal articles in journals such as the Journal of Psychology and Christianity, Journal of Psychology and Theology, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, International Journal for the Psychology of Religion, Mental Health, Culture and Religion, and the Journal of Family Psychology and presented over 40 papers at national conferences on the topic of relational spiritual development. His forthcoming book with Biola colleague Dr. John Coe (Psychology in the Spirit: Contours of a Transformational Psychology; due to release spring, 2009) will be part of IVP's forthcoming worldview series. Dr. Hall is completing a book on his relational spirituality theory, also with IVP, entitled The Relational Revolution. He is also completing a general audience book and curriculum on spiritual transformation entitled Furnishing the Soul: Forces the Guide Spiritual Transformation. Dr. Hall also conducts Furnishing the Soul seminars for churches and Christian colleges and organizations around the country. Dr. Hall maintains a small clinical practice in which he specializes in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults.
